Mplayer Engine Support

I'm a C++ Programmer and Professional Linux Systems engineer. I was thinking
if we could add "Mplayer" engine to amarok to enable mplayer-based
video/audio playback.

I'm very new to amarok development and I want to know:
1-if anyone has worked on something like this before or not?
2-if it's possible
3-how can I start?
