mplayer instead of xine?

Hello list,

I've only been using amarok for a few weeks now, but I enjoy it much
more then any other media player I've ever used.  However, I was
wondering, why use the xine engine in amarok instead of mplayer?  Is
it for some reason not possible?  Is anybody working on a sort of
plugin to make amarok use mplayer for playback rather then xine?
