Hello!

As Software I am using Debian Etch and libmtp binaries build from sources for
Debian Sid.

I have a SAMSUNG YP-u3J and would love to use it in combination with Amarok.

To me it seems that the libmtp works as expected, but nevertheless Amarok does
not recognize my Samsung Music Player.

What I did so far:

1.) Fetched Debian Sid libmtp sources and created the Debian binary packages
for my machine.

2.) Installed all libmtp binary packages.

3.) Changed /etc/udev/rules.d/libmtp7.rules. I commented th old entries
for "ATTR{idVendor}=="04e8"" and wrote my own ones.

LABEL="libmtp_usb_rules"

[...]

# ATTR{idVendor}=="04e8", ATTR{idProduct}=="507d", SYMLINK+="libmtp-%k",
MODE="660", GROUP="audio"
### Neuer Eintrag von Leo
# Samsung YP-U3J
ATTR{idVendor}=="04e8", ATTR{idProduct}=="507d", SYMLINK+="libmtp-YP-U3J",
MODE="660", GROUP="audio"

[...]

LABEL="libmtp_usb_device_rules"

[...]

# Samsung YP-U3
# ATTRS{idVendor}=="04e8", ATTRS{idProduct}=="507d", SYMLINK+="libmtp-%k",
MODE="660", GROUP="audio"
### Neuer Eintrag von Leo
# Samsung YP-U3J
ATTRS{idVendor}=="04e8", ATTRS{idProduct}=="507d", SYMLINK+="libmtp-YP-U3J",
MODE="660", GROUP="audio"

4.) I checked the existance of /dev/libmtp-YP-U3J.

leo at veneto:~$ ls /dev/libmtp-YP-U3J --color=never
/dev/libmtp-YP-U3J

5.) I tried "mtp-detect" and it seems to work correctly.

6.) I tried to autiomatically find my Samsung Media Player with Amarok 1.4.4
(KDE 3.5.5) but it does not work.

7.) I tried to manually add my Samsung Media Player to Amarok. I said type
= "Generic media player", name = "YP-U3J" and mountpoint
= "/dev/libmtp-YP-U3J". That far it works. But I can't make any use of my
media player with Amarok.

I also had an IPod from my brother connected to my PC. This IPod gets
automatically recogniced (and configured ?) by Amarok.

Now I have two questions:

1.) Can I expected a similiar behaviour with my Samsung as with an IPod?
2.) Does anybody know what I have to do, to get my Amarok behave the way it
does with an IPod?

Thanks,
Leonhard.

PS: As I don't know what the problem is, I write to both lists: libmtp and
Amarok
