Yup, was gonna say that. You probably want to set a root password and
also a lot of distros will disable network access to MySQL by default
too so you need to work out how to NOT pass --skip-networking to the
mysql startup (e.g. check /etc/sysconfig/mysql if it exists or
/etc/my.cnf if you are using mysql 5).
