Jeff,

I tried what you describe below, and while I will definitely concede that seek
is not entirely reliable (especially with the alsa device using RP10), I dont
observe this behavior.  I can get skipping (even if I stop the back and forth
seeking), the visuals to hang up, and the progress bar to stop updating.  I
dont see any more processes or threads created.

Knowing the way it works, its hard to believe.  Can you give more 
details of how
you get it to happen, like what device is selected, are you using dmix or hw
mixing, distro, kde version, xorg or xfree?  anything that you think might be
useful for duplicating.

The backtrace below is described as one of the forked processes, and it
definitely isnt in the engine.
