Amarok and unicode tags?

I have used Amarok to organize all my Japanese music.  I went through
and fixed all the tags with Japanese names.  Amarok displays everything
just fine.  But when I view the files in windows explorer or on my
portable music device the tag info is all garbage.  What unicode is
Amarok using?  Whatever it is seems to only work with Amarok.  How can I
change it or fix this problem?
