current svn fails to build collection

reproduced by at least 3 people.
collection scan finishes really fast, no error messages are printed. in 
some runs a couple of alphabetically first files are added (for me 
always 20 of them from 20k).
we suspect recent changes to collectionscanner behaviour, but so far no 
progress has been made.
anybody who could help on this ? i want my collection back :)
(this also affects incremental scan, where added files are not recognised)
