Here's a thought:
If multiple messages/operations are queued up, place left and right (an first
and last) arrows on the very side of the statusbar. In the middle between
the two is a count of the number of messages/operations currently queued up.
They should act as a FIFO queue, with messages at the front being removed at
some set interval (if not currently being viewed).
