Gst-0.10 engine for 2.0, thoughts on phonon

If there are no objections, I'd like to re-enable the gst 0.10 engine in
trunk. I have it working again in stable, and building successfully in
trunk. Neither phonon-gst nor our gst-0.10 engine work for me in my
kde4 environ, so Im not sure if the problem is just setup (on the same
machine stable works fine).

It still lacks crossfade, and it doesnt respect the fadeout options in
the playback menu, but it seems like now might be a good time to try to
get those working in there.

I'm all for using phonon (I think I'll try to build a phonon-helix), but
at present I don't see how it is capable of supporting features like
visualizations and equalization, and its not clear to me how to get it
to crossfade. The audioeffects class needs to be fleshed out before the
first 2 can work, and I'm not sure it will be stable enough by the
summer for us to rely on it for our only engine. Given that xine and
helix are working, mature, and stable, my feeling is we should continue
to support our own engines at least until the api is complete and
stable. Agree? Disagree?
