No.  I mean, you won't be able to use those URLs if you have an older version 
of KDE that doesn't have them.  But this is just a side effect of the generic 
media handler anyways...I never even thought of using it like that until 
someone complained it almost, but didn't quite, work  :-)  It should work 
find now, but only with whatever kioslaves you have.
