If possible, it would great to see use KIO rather than a standalone
application.  This would allow much tighter integration with the rest
of plasma active, tight integration with desktop and netbook KDE with
no additional work, and I think already provides a lot of tools for
getting files from and sending files to network resources.  You can
always then build a gui wrapper around the kio slave.

It would be useful to know what specific cloud services you are thinking about.
