one other small note: this is the most naive implementation of the model 
possible (it resets the model contents each time the matches change). already 
it's more performant than the engine was ... but if we find the need to take 
it further, i (or someone else if they wish too :) can improve the 
implementation by preserving the indexes of matches that remain from match to 
match. well, this MIGHT be better .. or it might even be slower due to more 
changes to the indexes (and it would require more processing when matches 
appear).

the one way that might make a big (perceived) difference is that the view may 
keep the item and just move it around instead of clearing the results and 
making new ones appear. so .. animation versus none.

however, this may or may not be an issue. it will require testing on tablets 
and various circumstances.

in any case .. i'm already happy with the improvement.
