I re-tested it now. The situation is as follows:
* The log-in screen is corrupted
* The splash screen is *not* corrupted
* The desktop is all corrupted except window title bars and the "Run command"
dialog (ALT+F2) which are OK
* Digikam (which should be a Qt application, if I am not wrong) is completely
corrupted
* GIMP is OK, except for the tool icons which are corrupted
* Geeqie shows a black rectangle instead of images
