KDE crashes immediately on start-up, every time. I can think of nothing special
I have done on the machine that could have generated this bug.

I've tried logging in using the "failsafe" option in KDM, and get the same
result.

The initial error message is of the form "Executable: plasma-desktop PID: 1145
Signal: Segmentation fault (11) Time: 22/08/2013 23:10:35"

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start machine
2. Log in
Actual Results:  
There's an error message which says that the Plasma Desktop Shell has crashed.
I can open applications from the command line, but the background to all
applications is a black screen.

Expected Results:  
Produce the usual KDE screen.
