There is inkscape and karbon, as examples of vector-graphics editors. But 
since we use only small snippets of xml-code for one component, a text-editor 
will also do for most of the work.

;) I had exactly that case in mind, when first thinking about it. I wanted the 
US-symbol for resistors and the DIN-symbols for all that logic stuff...

I am working on the Qt-part of that.
