Most colour changes work OK for me, using Settings > Configure KMyMoney
 > Colors
In the Background panel of color settings there is an option to Use
System Colors or to set up custom colours

Your current windows theme could make a difference
For example under high contrast themes, in some applications colour
changes don't show
