I fear as I'm getting older it's rather the latter one for me.
Since not everyone is on IRC, here's a small KNewStuff2 status update: I've 
patched kde-edu and it compiles nicely. It's far from working though. The 
remaining hour I have I'll use for kdebase (since that will hit many I 
think), the other modules will have to wait until tomorrow or find 
volunteers.
The porting strategy is thus far "make it link, but don't expect anything to 
work", especially data sharing between applications (e.g. KVTML), provider 
files based on current languages, reimplementation of decompression and 
whatever funny constructions grew over the KDE 3 cycle and must be 
consolidated.
Then some minutes before leaving office I'll replace KNS1 with KNS2 and hope 
dashbot will have a hot new night.
