'course what I really meant to say was :-

Test this:- 
                On the NX machine, logged in as yourself.
        sudo su -l -s /bin/bash nx
                mkdir ~/.xauth ; touch ~/.xauth/export 
                Then NXconnect/disconnect/reconnect.

And
You shouldn't need to touch any other users to
stop XAUTHORITY being set.
