as far as I can see it has to do with the Xorg version. I do not know
which package exactly.

On my Debian system after upgrading to Xorg 7.5 or X server 1.7.6.901-2
I see the exact problem as Gregory. It must be a different problem than
the one experienced some time ago. (This was evdev related as far as I
can remember.)
