spammers

The question is: how do they pass our spam protection?
* Has the CAPTCHA system been broken?
* A security hole in MediaWiki or one of the plugins?

Maybe we should try upgrading all that can be upgraded and see
if the problem vanishes. Who is currently maintaining the wiki?
