Very likely caused by

I experienced this as well while testing the merge request for it, until
KIconThemes got a corresponding change:

Then everything worked as intended for me.

is also necessary.

All of those commits should only be in KF6, though. The fact that you're
experiencing this in KF5 is strange.

At the moment my theory is that your distro backported

but not the other commits.

Can you check that? Or contact them and see what they have to say about it?
