In the abstract, it doesn't seem ideal that all the document-open icons use
folder iconography. However, I believe this is done for reasons of historical
familiarity; "open" icons have been a folder since forever, and I think the
desire was to keep that visual cue that at this point has been burned into
people's brains for 30 years.
Now, maybe it's time to re-examine this and choose an icon that makes more
sense for the present than for the pats. Or maybe the document-open icons can
stay using folder iconography, but be re-done to maybe show a document popping
out of a folder or something, or some other thing (not an icon designer). Or
maybe Kompare should choose different icons to work around the issue. Probably
needs more VDG discussion.
