UX Session

Happy new year to all UX aficionados,
there is currently a very interesting discussion ongoing about an
enhancement of Dolphin. But there are luckily a lot of other topics on the
review board and the mailinglist that asks for opinions from the usability
team. I believe this is an excellent advancement. However, UX is "degraded"
to a part of QA which works for the localization team and for design tasks
(no need to have final art works when the coding starts) but not so good
for usability (basic workflow, GUI interaction concepts, target group etc.)
as well as accessibility.
At Libreoffice we have a weekly hangout where news and bugs are discussed
and work is allocated. Additionally we have established a "design session"
during that we intensively discuss new dialogs (one per session only). The
advantage is that people from the development, design and usability come
together and bring in their special knowledge. For instance I am not the
worst in drawing balsamiq mockups but would fail with hires, pixel-perfect
inkscape examples.
So my suggestion is to have this kind of meeting for KDE as well. It's an
offer to the developers to discuss their ideas, for ordinary users that
have an idea how to improve KDE software, and to align us in respect to the
bug/feature tracker. Opinions?
tl;dr; We should have a UX hangout for new features.
Cheers,
Heiko
