this issue is not relative to gwenview specifically. this is not dolphin issue
as well.

I have this issue in many apps (gwenview, kate, element matrix client) while
trying to open an image or text file through file picker. in the same time
other kind of files (videos) open without problems. the issue also persists
across all kinds of drives not only veracrypt containers

give me more debugging instructions and I will tell you more
