I managed to get it working. So it seems to be incompatibility between krdp and
freerdp's openh264 backend. My distro builds freerdp with both ffmpeg and
openh264 which results in openh264 being preferred:

I rebuilt it without openh264 and now connecting to krdp works just fine. idk
whose fault it is, leaving it for your investigation guys.
