Bug ID: 489813
Summary: While Watching YouTube Videos, Audio System Resets or
Crashes
Classification: I don't know
Product: kde
Version: unspecified
Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: general
Assignee: unassigned-bugs at kde.org
Reporter: theattish at gmail.com
Target Milestone: ---
SUMMARY
While watching YouTube videos, the audio system resets, and I get that KDE
'Current Device' label on the screen that appears for a short time to indicate
which audio device is being used. The problem is, the mic stops working after
this, and I need to reboot the OS to make it work again.
This only happens on WAYLAND and on the latest Arch Linux Release with the
Nvidia 555 drivers. I have not tweaked the drivers in any way, even though some
people are experiencing lag on Wayland, including myself.
Also, sometimes YouTube videos play, but the Audio does not. Unplaying the
video and then playing it again using the 'Play Button' on the video makes the
audio audible again.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Watch a YouTube Video.
2. Sometimes the video plays without any errors. Sometimes the video plays
without the audio.
3. Unplay the video and click the play button and the audio starts working.
4. After an arbitrary amount of time, the KDE sound system somehow resets or
crashes. Something happens which I can't really tell.
OBSERVED RESULT
Audio system sometimes crashes or resets, but the Mic is the device that does
not reset properly. When I use OBS, it fails to pic up the Mic after this
crash.
EXPECTED RESULT
The audio system should work properly and never crash. YouTube videos should
play with their audio audible from the very start.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows:
macOS:
Linux/KDE Plasma: Arch Linux (Endeavor OS)
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 6.1.2
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.3.0

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I have no idea what this issue is. I have been trying to restart the audio
engine.
