If it crashed at the login screen, then the login screen itself was broken by
your change. The login screen is actually not a KDE project. Unfortunately this
kind of user misconfiguration is capable of bricking the system. There isn't
anything we can do about it without restricting your ability to make changes
like that (which would cause a riot) or have the distro ship backup and
recovery tools (which would depend on the distro).
