Thanks also. After playing around some more. This bug seems to affect file
associations as well. For example right click a python file ending with .py.
Select properties, select file type options and try to change the icon. If the
icon is .svg it will just be a blank icon even if you get rid of the extension.
However the workaround suggested by the bug report you linked to works for this
as well. Change the icon to png and it works.
