I am currently running Kubuntu 18.04 on both desktop (diy) and laptop(HP) which
shows KDE Plasma 5.12.6 and kded5 5.44.0.  I have not seen a "morning crash" in
years, definitely not since 16.04. I would not consider this an active issue.
