After logging out and back in again, xdg-email and xdg-open now work properly.
However, kde-open still opens mailto: URLs in KMail. Turning on all debugging
output via kdebugdialog shows kioclient attempting to launch KMail, not the
third-party e-mail program I specified in System Settings:
