- What I was doing when the application crashed:  previously was able to log
into KDE w/ failsafe settings (from X11 menu, not from the GRUB menu) and use
the desktop normally.  Not sure what is different, but whatever it is, when I
had to kill X11 and log back in b/c KDE had frozen (non-KDE apps still were
responsive, but anything from KDE no longer responded to mouse clicks--could
change between apps via alt-tab, but not task bar, kmenu didn't do anything,
etc.)
