thank you - I realized that the .desktop file contained the line
Exec=ksystraycmd /usr/bin/plaidchat %u   

After removing ksystraycmd, everything works. But why would kmenuedit insert
ksystraycmd - I definitely didn't put it in. Is this already a known bug?
