Uhh, my brain hurts...

Forgot to mention: 
my computer now resolves the domain correctly, i.e. nslookup returns the LAN-IP
of my server, all relevant ports do respond. So I doubt it's a server issue.
The server runs an instance of Kolab 3.4, using Courier and Postfix
