I have an NFS-mounted (via NIS and autofs) homedir. /usr/local/share is
(ironically) also remote.

Here's where I've seen the biggest lag:
* Anything having to do with themes
* Opening the shutdown menu
* Doing any shutdown activity (shutdown, reboot, log off)
* Starting up

Would *love* to see improvements in this space.
