my use-case is that a client actually in turn boots my server (sounds silly but
it's an access thing), and if on occasion (like this morning) this server fails
to start, the kde session on the client stalls indefinately until the server
comes up.

why? because the restore session is loading several instances of dolphin that i
was using previously, and ony or more of those has a tab 'open' on a nfs share
dir.
