Me too.

I have exact the same problem. After installing some updates on openSUSE 12.1
and rebooting, kde won't start anymore.

Andreas, are you using the propietary nvidia driver? I am. Did you found any
solution?
I tried downgrading several packages from the update, but it still kept
crashing.
You can check which packages you updated at /var/log/zypp/history.
