My mouse pointer disappears after approximately one second.  This makes working
very difficult.  I need to know where it is without having to move it.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
It seems to be permanent. I tried disabling the hardware cursor in xorg.conf
but that not only didn't work but also introduced some strange jittering when
hovering over menus. I have removed the xorg.conf that I created.

Previously I used Gnome and did not have this problem so much (i.e the pointer
stayed visible for longer), except for when I was running KDE applications like
konsole under Gnome, in which case the pointer disappeared as it does now.


Expected Results:  
The pointer should remain visible.

I guess the optimal situation is for the user to be able to specify the time
after which it disappears (for those people who want it to disappear).

My hardware is AMD Phenom 2 x4 (4GB) with Zotac GeForce 430 (1GB)
