Summary: Cannot change desktop icon grid spacing
           Product: kde
           Version: 4.6
          Platform: Mageia RPMs
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: wishlist
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
        AssignedTo: unassigned-bugs at kde.org
        ReportedBy: martin at gkc.org.uk

Version: 4.6 (using KDE 4.6.3)
OS: Linux

How do I change the spacing of icons on the desktop when "Align to grid" is
active?

I am currently using Mandriva 2010 and trying out Mageia 1 and found that the
icons on my desktop are spaced out much further apart than they used to be. Is
there a place where this spacing can be adjusted?

I tried adding this option to ~/.kde4/share/config/kdeglobals:

[DesktopIcons]
DesktopGridSpacing=25,10

It made no difference.

I found a workaround, which works for me because I vary rarely change the icons
on my desktop:

(1) Turn off the grid
(2) Drag each icon to roughly the right place
(3) The icon positions are saved under savedPositions in:
.kde4/share/config/plasma-desktop-appletsrc
(4) Log out of the desktop
(5) Edit plasma-desktop-appletsrc to adjust the icon positions so that the
vertical positions are the same and the horizontal positions are spaced equally
(6) Log back into the desktop again to check the positions.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Right click on desktop, select "folder View Settings", Display, Align to Grid

Actual Results:
Icons are spread out

Expected Results:
An option to adjust the spacing between icons.
