Some things you could check:

- $HOME/.xsession-errors should contain valuable information about the last
action before the crash or other bug that leads to the log out

- Start with a new user account as it may be possible that some of the old
configuration prevents a correct KDE start

- Start in "fail save" X11 mode (i.e. with only xterm as the "session"), and
run "startkde" manually from this terminal so that you can see what happens
during startup
