Sure, kpilot does not ship. However, in my opinion,  the pilot should not get
fried when connected. And one could always try install some old kpilot version.

As stated on the Suse list, just in case it helps: I would offer to borrow a
handspring for the duration of fixing this issue. Borrow: free of charge.
However, the handspring is the german version.
