First, RE: https://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=58054
ithink some points were missed which is understandable since the reference to
the bug at Mandriva was not listed.
David, the reporter, tested other DE and *none* of them exhibit this problem.
In addition this problem has tracked through multiple versions of kernels, X
and KDE. As far as can be determined, this is a *KDE only* anomaly.
It only occurs on KDE desktop since KDE 3.4.0. Since it bridges not only
different Linux kernels and X but also recent versions of KDE while still not
occurring in other DE, it is most likely code related to KDE that was changed
at or near to the KDE-3.4 release.
*This is not a standard PS2 or USB connected pointing device.*
( Hence probably why no others have come forth stating that they too experience
this. )
It is a serial bus pointing device connected to the serial port. It functions
as a mouse pointer and is used because the reporter cannot physically use a
regular mouse.
The reporter must use this device and is a Linux & KDE confirmed
loyalist(fanatic is too strong term but despite suggestions to use another DE,
David remains loyal to KDE). My general advice would be to revert to pre
KDE-3.4 but as all are aware, it is almost impossible to do that and have a
safe & stable system. The next w/b to use a different DE but as mentioned
Linux & KDE seems to be the only viable option for the reporter.
AFAICT, there is no reason to believe that it is anything other than some kind
of interference from a KDE widget. Only KDE dev' will be able to ascertain
what|which ... or prove me|us wrong.
