Summary: Mouse Buttons Randomly Stop Working During KDE 4.3.5
Desktop Session
Product: kde
Version: unspecified
Platform: Mandriva RPMs
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: NOR
Component: general
AssignedTo: unassigned-bugs at kde.org
ReportedBy: dasmith at electronicaidesdesign.com
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.3.5)
OS: Linux
I am experiencing an annoying problem with the current release of Mandriva
Linux 2010.0 KDE desktop with precompiled kernel 2.6.31-12-desktop-1mnb, where
sometimes the mouse buttons of my generic two button Microsoft serial mouse
become disabled, where I can't click on anything in the KDE 4.3 panel, yet the
mouse cursor still moves and the right mouse button still works. At the same
time, the cut and paste mouse functions seems to get activated and none of the
popup titles and descriptions appears. The only way to get out of this
situation is to do a [CTRL][ALT][F1] to a text shell and reboot the system.
My system consists of an ASUS P4B533 motherboard with an Intel Pentium 4
running at 2.4 GHz, 2 Gigs of DDR Memory, ATI 9200 Graphics Card, Adaptec SCSI
Card 29160N.
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
x11-server-xorg-1.6.5-1mdv2010.0 and KDE 4.3.5
How reproducible:
Keep performing text copy and pastes and other mouse functions. Soon the pick
mouse button will stop functioning and the mouse will seem to be stuck in some
sort of mode, which can't be exited without bailling out from x11-server-xorg
and rebooting the system.
Update 10/15/2010: The mouse button problem still exists in Mandriva Linux
2010.1 desktop 2.6.33.7-2 kernel with KDE-4.3.5 and
x11-server-xorg-1.7.7-1mdv2010.1, Release Date: 2010-05-04. I have now noticed
that the problem seems to be within KDE-4.3.5 after doing several mouse button
operations to focus KDE application windows up top on the screen. It's like KDE
goes out of sync and the left mouse pick button becomes disabled and the right
mouse button then becomes the Minimize and Maximize toggle function of the
current application window. The only way I can get out of this mode is to do a
[CTRL][ALT][BackSpace] to reset x11 and relog in again. I can't believe other
Mandriva Linux 2010.1 users are not experiencing this exact problem with the
mouse buttons?
Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Position the mouse cursor on some text in some x11 windows kde application
and click and drag with the left mouse button to highlight the desired text.
2. While having the mouse cursor positioned on the highlighted text, click the
right mouse button to bring up the mouse edit functions menu and left click on
copy.
3. Now position the mouse cursor somewhere to paste the selected text and click
the right mouse button to bring up the mouse edit functions menu again and left
click on Paste.
4. Repeat steps 1. to 4. until mouse buttons seesses to function anymore and
that's the bug.
Actual Results:
Keep performing text copy and pastes and other mouse functions. Soon the pick
mouse button will stop functioning and the mouse will seem to be stuck in some
sort of mode, which can't be exited without bailling out from x11-server-xorg
and rebooting the system.
Also, after doing several mouse button operations to focus KDE application
windows up top on the screen. It's like KDE goes out of sync and the left mouse
pick button becomes disabled and the right mouse button then becomes the
Minimize and Maximize toggle function of the current application window. The
only way I can get out of this mode is to do a [CTRL][ALT][BackSpace] to reset
x11 and relog in again.
Expected Results:
On several occurrences, the mouse cursor changed to a thumbnail of the current
application being use with a "Not In Use" icon symbol to the upper right of the
thumbnail image and it tracks with the mouse movements. During this time the
left mouse button will become dysfunctional and the right mouse button will
either kill the current application in use, minimize it or do nothing.
The mouse should operate normally at all times. No special programs, such as
gpm, etc. were installed.
