Summary: kio_file has hangup problems on NFS directory
           Product: kde
           Version: 4.5
          Platform: Gentoo Packages
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: crash
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
        AssignedTo: unassigned-bugs at kde.org
        ReportedBy: mark at tvk.rwth-aachen.de

Version: 4.5
OS: Linux

I am using an NFSv4 server and client in a LAN and a shared directory from that
NFS server is mounted in my home.
I am observing many hangups when moving files from my home to that mounted
folder if I use dolphin for that task. The "hangups" are unresponsive dolphin
windows, while no data is being copied in that moment (watching the network
traffic and disk utilization on the NFS server). If I open another dolphin
window and change to the same directory that is stuck in the other dolphin
window, the new dolphin window is getting stuck too.
The only way to resolve this problem is to kill all kio_file tasks, which
immediately makes the open dolphin windows usable again (and terminates the
copying process of course).

I don't know how to reproduce this exactly, I only know that It happens when I
am copying many (about 20) folders/files to the NFS directory or delete
multiple selected folders from the NFS directory. I was able to circumvent the
deletion problem by deleting only one selected folder at a time. The time I
selected two instead of one folder, kio_file got stuck again, I killed it and
deleted the remaining folder (it seemed to have deleted at least one of the
selected folders before it got stuck).
I think this problem does not occur all the time but the more kio_file using
apps are open and copying stuff to that folder the higher the probability for
getting stuck again.
Most of the data I copy/delete is several gigabytes large; this night I copied
about 200 gigs (or at least tried until I fell back to cp)

I'm sorry for this unspecific prosa, but I don't know a better way to reproduce
or describe the problem.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
As described above, this might be difficult. At least one needs a mounted NFS
share and some folders with larger files to copy into that folder.

Actual Results:
as described above, kio_file gets stuck and has to be killed and I have to
retry again

Expected Results:
it should work like 'select, copy and forget' :-)

I am using kde 4.5.3, but it was not an available choice in bugzilla, only up
to 4.5.2 or snapshot.
As the software hangs and needs to be killed, I am going to classify this as a
crash.
