Recently used icons mockup
Version: unspecified (using KDE 1.2)
OS: All
Enhance KDE user experience with using context actions on files based on recent
usage.
The problem: when there are lots of usages of more then one program for
particular file type (listen and editing the music, photography, movies) it's
very unpleasing way to do it from dolphin or other file browsers: click right
button, go to "open with" find one particular application from possible dozen,
and then again and again while there are 2-3 applications that are used
frequently (for instance showPhoto & gwenview or amarok & rezound, etc). This
is really inconvenient to perform such navigation every time.
The proposal: KDE should track recently used applications (and actions) used
for particular file types and make recent actions available in more convenient
way (see screenshot attached).
1. Recently used application icon should appear on the file icon next to
select/unselect button.
2. The order of buttons icons should be based on real frequency to prevent
appearing of one time used app there.
3. Icons of actions that were not recently used should slowly fade away or
replaced by recently used actions.
Advanced enhancements:
1. KDE could perform the tracking based on directory hierarchy. For instance in
"My family" directory recent actions could be video or photo editing, and in
"Crap from youtube" recent actions could be just viewing.
2. Actions for particular file could override actions based on file types. For
instance file "~/Documents/TODO.txt" could have different recently used
application than generic text file.
Reproducible: Always
