Comment 1 describes an issue which is already fixed for KDE SC 4.6.
Reassigning to Kaffeine/Phonon developers

I can't reproduce the crash here using:
Kaffeine 1.1.0, Phonon using the Xine backend, libxine 1.1.19
and KDE SC 4.5.4 + Qt 4.7.1 or ArchLinux i686

- Have you checked if other Xine powered players (like "gxine" or "xine-ui")
also crash/hang in your system when trying to play the same MNG file ?
