According to the downstream bug report
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=320487 the crash happened because
KDE SC release 4.5.0 enabled stricter memory checks. Disabling those memory
checks "hides" the crash, and this has been committed for release 4.5.1. For
more information, see bug 247398.

Since it is the Java virtual machine that is crashing, there is nothing else
that is KDE related, and I am closing this bug.
