After running the following commands:

xrandr --output LVDS1 --off

xrandr --output VGA1 --mode 1280x1024 --rate 60.00 --output HDMI3 --mode
1280x1024 --rate 60.00 --left-of VGA1

the plasma desktop crashes, but any windows I had open are still available.  I
can log out and log back in to restart the plasma desktop
