Do you exactly remember the look of that "Collecting Problem Information"
window ? 

KDE has a crash handler dialog which appears in those cases, however, it needs
user interaction to start "collecting the problem information" (and it only
generates a "backtrace") ... so.. may be you were getting a different
dialog/window (I do not recognize the string "Collecting Problem Information"
being part of the KDE crash handler)
