Dario,

-Name of crashing application: KDE Control Module (in the crash window 
dialog box heading bar it says "An internal system error has occurred - 
KDE Control Module).  This causes extreme system lag.  In fact, often 
when right-clicking the Update Notifier icon in the taskbar, it takes 
upwards to 10 minutes for the dropdown menu to appear; all other 
processes run markedly slower, as well.

-Version of KDE: KDE 4.2.2.

-Prevalence: Crash happens every time, I am able to reproduce it each 
and every time I A.) reboot Kubuntu and select to apply updates using 
the Update Notifier in my taskbar (which then launches KDE Control 
Module - Software Updates), or B.) I attempt to "Refresh" or "Apply all 
available updates" using the KDE Control Module - Software Updates.

I have included a snapshot of the problem as I am a new user and not the 
most KDE/Linux savvy person.

I appreciate your help very much.

P.S. If it helps diagnose the problem, I also have problems with the 
Plasma Dashboard Desktop crashing several times during any session.
