I was also able to reproduce the bug more reliably following comment #154.

My configuration:
* evdev
* USB keyboard
* no global keyboard listeners or IMEs that I'd be aware of, except for KDE's
hotkeys
* desktop effects: cover flow switch
* focus follows mouse
